Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival

Sunday, August long weekend
Vancouver, British Columbia

The Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival, the largest parade in Western Canada and one of the largest in North America, is an annual gay pride event celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people.

Vancouver’s Pride began 32 years ago as a small march and has now grown into a nationally and internationally recognized, parade and festival attracting over 750,000 people to the streets in a day.

A popular event ever since it began in 1981, the world-class Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival attracts visitors not only in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities, but in all walks of life and from all over the world.

Taking place on the Sunday of the August long weekend, the parade spans 20 blocks. The Parade begins at noon at Robson and Thurlow and heads West down the hill to Denman street, along Denman to Pacific and Beach Avenue and finishes at the Sunset Beach Festival Site. The 150 parade entries include colorful floats, musical marching bands, celebrities, community groups and even politicians.

Celebrations continue during and after the Parade at the Sunset Beach Pride Festival. 125,000 people gather in the park, listen to live music by local performers and enjoy the headliners on the Festival Stage. There are 140 booths with a diverse range of products, services, and a private, beachfront beer garden.

As street closures to facilitate the parade begin at 8 am and normally are in effect to at least 3pm, it is advisable to make transport arrangements including parking options before and after this time. Be prepared to walk.

Places along the route start to fill up in the early morning, so it is advisable to get there early too to ensure a front row seat.
