Williams Lake Stampede

late June
Williams Lake, British Columbia

Williams Lake, located in the central interior region of British Columbia known as the Cariboo is home to the annual Williams Lake Stampede, which takes place over the Canada Day long weekend.

Originally, the Williams Lake Stampede began 1919 as a gathering of ranchers and their neighbors to enjoy the fun of the rodeo, from riding broncs and steers to racing on horseback. It was a chance to showcase their horses, and their cowboy skills.

The rodeo is held on the same site as 1st Annual production in 1919.

One of Canada's top rodeo events, the Williams Lake Stampede now attracts visitors from all over the world, as well as international rodeo competitors from Canada and the United States and showcases bareback riding events, barrel racing in which the rider must circle three barrels set in a cloverleaf pattern, and one of the world's most dangerous events - bull riding where cowboys have to match wits and moves with a rodeo bull.

Other events include tie down roping showcasing the skills of the roper and their horses, pony chariot races in which two-wheeled chariots with two-horse teams careen around the oval, wild horse races as teams try to saddle a wild horse and steer him across a finish line with a rider in the saddle, pony chuckwagons led by 4-horse teams, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping in which a pair of ropers each mounted on a well trained horse try to rope a steer, top dog events and the ever-popular chuck wagon races as well.

If that were enough, even more entertainment at the Williams Lake Stampede includes everything for the whole family, with a special “Kid’s Night”, musical entertainment and a Barn Dance at the curling rink.

There are a variety of ticket options starting at under $20 available at the Stampede Office at 800 South Mackenzie Ave located behind the Grand Stand.

Ticketing opens in mid May each year.
