Billed as the “ultimate” in extreme racing, Cain’s Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race is a world class sporting event covering more than 2500 km and is the longest snowmobile endurance race in Canada.

Teams of two riders and their snowmobiles race through the stunning landscapes of Labrador from Labrador City to Churchill Falls-Happy Valley-Goose Bay and back.

From each checkpoint to the other, Cain’s Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race runs day and night and relies on GPS, excellent riding skills, and top of the range equipment to get the winners through to the gate and the prize money of $65,000. The Cain’s Quest course follows a wide range of topography, from deep snow and thick wooded areas to wide open frozen lakes.

During the race, the two-man teams are equipped with a satellite tracking devices which help officials (for safety), and those enthusiasts following the race (for fun) to follow the race in near real time at

When Cain’s Quest began in 2006, 3 teams from Quebec, 10 from the Labrador City/Wabush, 1 from Goose Bay and 1 from Forteau/L’anse au Loup area came to compete. Today, more than 24 teams sign up each year to take part in the race, coming from all over Canada and the USA, and millions of enthusiasts are following the race on line from more than 70 international locations.

The name of the Cain’s Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race is a reference to Jacques Cartier’s famous expeditions to North America and his comment that the coast of Labrador was “the land God gave to Cain”.

Weather, however, can be a deciding issue as far as the race is concerned, and the challenge for 2010 had to be cancelled when the route became impassable.
