Exploits Valley Salmon Festival

July
Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL)

Originally a regional celebration of the migrating Atlantic Salmon, the Exploits Valley Salmon Festival has since become a major international festival highlighting the traditional foods and music of Newfoundland and Labrador attracting visitors from all over the world.

Marketed as a “Fish and Fun While the Salmon Run”, the Exploits Valley Salmon Festival starts off with a Salmon Dinner on Thursday evening and on the next evening the fun racks up a few more notches as the Friday Night Dance gets underway.

The Saturday festivities begin with the Traditional Newfoundland Brunch sponsored by Memorial United Church Women, and finally, at 1pm, the all-day Salmon Festival blasts into action. This is the largest all-day concert in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Sunday is Family Day at the Salmon Festival, complete with the newly established Gospel concert for all ages.

On Monday Grand Falls-Windsor Day Main Street keeps the fun going and the visitors happy with a range of activities from horse riding to a free community BBQ, until the ever popular Newfie Night, highlight of the 5-day festival, begins.

Concerts in the past have featured world class entertainment such as Waylon Jennings, the Rankin Family, Alannah Myles, the Irish Descendants and Great Big Sea.

For eight years, the Exploits Valley Salmon Festival was noted as one of North America’s Top 100 Events by the American Bus Association.
