Winterlude

early February,
Ottawa, Ontario (ON)

The annual Winterlude festival held in Canada’s capital city celebrates winter with a host of outdoor activities including public skating and skating displays, ice sculpture competitions, musical concerts, children's play areas, largest ice playground, an 'ice lounge', and numerous off-site events.

For more than 40 years, the highlight of these activities has featured fun on the frozen Rideau Canal, the world’s largest skating rink. Beyond the fun of just skating yourself on the 7.8-kilometres of ice running through the heart of downtown Ottawa, events on the ice include the Winterlude Triathlon, Bedzzz Annual Bed Race, Great Canadian Beaver Cup Pond Hockey Classic, Eco-Art exhibition and skating demonstrations.
The Festival features more than 120 spectacular illuminations, including the world-famous Enchantment of Disney® displays. The Festival also hosts many other attractions and events, including the iconic TD RINK at the Brink, the breathtaking Fireworks over the Falls, the CYTEC Candy Cane Lane 5k Race & Fun Run, the Santa’s Village Candlelight Stroll, a Christmas concert series and so much more.

Its newest feature – TD RINK at the Brink – offers public ice skating in an iconic setting located just steps away from the Horseshoe Falls.  With its magnificent view you’ll enjoy the breathtaking experience of the mighty cataracts from a new perspective!

The North American Bus Association has proclaimed the CAA Winter Festival of Lights the "Number One" event in Canada.  The Festival also received a "Peoples Choice Award" for Best Event by S.W.O. Special Events Guide; was named by the Ontario Motor Coach Association as one of the Top 5 Festivals in Ontario; was recognized by the National Tour Association for its success in generating revenue in the off-season; and in 2002, the Winter Festival of Lights won the Attractions Canada Award for Best Cultural Event.

For the past several years, the CAA Winter Festival of Lights has been recognized as a Top 100 Internationally Known Event by the American Bus Association, and a Top 100 Festival By Festival and Events Ontario (FEO).  Most recently, the Winter Festival of Lights was included in the prestigious Ontario Festivals & Events of Distinction list.
