Montreal International Jazz Festival

end June / beginning July
Montréal, Québec (QC)

Each summer, for ten days from the end of June to early July, the streets of downtown Montreal come alive with the sound of Jazz – everything from traditional jazz to blues, Latin, gospel, Brazilian, Cuban, African and world beat

The world’s largest jazz festival, the Montreal International Jazz Festival event showcases the talents of more than 3,500 artists from over 30 different countries in almost 700 concerts. Jazz legends who have performed at the Montreal International Jazz Festival include the likes of Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennet, Ray Charles, Aretha Frankling, Oscar Peterson, BB King, Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock and many more.

Attracting more than 2 million visitors each year the jazz festival takes place at 10 prestigious venues and 10 free outdoor stages literally bringing the downtown core to a standstill from noon to midnight every day.

Whole city blocks are closed to traffic as the area comes alive with open air cafés and street performers on every corner. There is even a musical park for children where there is a lot of interactive and jazz instructive fun for younger children and teens.

Among many awards, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal was recently named Festival of the Year by the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry.

EVENT / FESTIVAL TIPS:
With hot, humid summers, and the occasional chilly evening, Montreal demands some care in terms of clothing and preparation. Dressing in layers is recommended, as is having a plentiful supply of water.
