One of three territories in Canada, Yukon is the smallest of the three territories and is famous for the must-travel highways, gold rush heritage and gold rush themed tourist attractions and the stunning parks like Kluane National Park and Reserve. Top events and festivals in Yukon include:

Celebration of Swans
3rd week in April
Marsh Lake, Yukon

Every year, bird enthusiasts from around the world come to celebrate the thousands of Trumpeter Swans and other water birds as they arrive at Marsh Lake on their annual migration north. Celebration of Swans, a 9-day premiere bird festival, uses the Swan Haven Interpretive Centre as it’s base and offers a splendid viewing dock, special activities and interpretive displays.

Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race
Whitehorse, Yukon

The annual Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race 1000 mile dog sled race takes place in February between Whitehorse, Yukon and Fairbanks, Alaska. It is known to be the most difficult sled dog race in the world and is renowned for the punishing winter conditions, the difficulty of the trail itself and the limited support en-route for the competitors. Teams of 6 to 14 dogs, held in check by the “musher”, race for 10 to 20 days.

Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous

Whitehorse, Yukon

A winter carnival with a true northern flavor, the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous, celebrates the 1890s, sourdoughs (veteran inhabitants of Canada’s Yukon Territory), the Yukon and the Klondike Gold Rush with exciting events like the Flour Packing Competition, the Axe Toss, the Chainsaw Chuck, a Kidsfest, Airshow, dog sled races, Fiddle Show, the Yukon Electrical Queen Tea and Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Can-Can dancers and the Snow-shoe Shufflers.

24 Hours of Light
mid June
Whitehorse, Yukon

Attracting almost 200 riders, and set in the stunning scenery of the Yukon at a time when the sun shines all day long, 24 Hours of Light runs from midday to midday, and pits teams of one to eight riders against a meandering 13 km circuit through former snowmobile trails, the World Cup 10 km ski trail, the Sarah Steele Trails and the Bouncing Bunny trail in the Mt. McIntyre area.

Dawson City Music Festival
mid July
Dawson City, Yukon

A multi-disciplinary, multi-venue music festival, taking place in Dawson City, Yukon each July, the Dawson City Music Festival is a lively and enthusiastic, three-day celebration of music and dancing under the midnight sun, and features folk, rock blues, world beat, traditional, jazz, hip-hop and more. Artists in the past have included Natalie MacMaster, the Barenaked Ladies and the Crash Test Dummies.
