Dawson City Music Festival

Mid July,
Dawson City
, Yukon

Christened "Canada's tiny, perfect festival" by the Georgia Straight in Vancouver, the Dawson City Music Festival is a multi-disciplinary, multi-venue music festival, taking place in Dawson City, Yukon each July.
In the Flour Packing competition, men and women carry huge loads of flour on their backs and stagger along under the protective shadow of a mobile gantry and painfully step out the 15 metre (11 metres for women) course.

A phenomenal success since 1979 when it began, the Dawson City Music Festival is a lively and enthusiastic, three-day celebration of music and dancing under the midnight sun, and features folk, rock blues, world beat, traditional, jazz, hip-hop and more.

The main festival site at Minto Park is the central hub of activity from Friday evening to Sunday midnight.  The park site features a beer garden, a wide variety of food and craft vendors, an information booth, a festival merchandise booth as well as tons of music in the main stage tent.  Concerts and workshops take place in venues all over town, including the historic Palace Grand Theatre.

Past artists highlighted at the Dawson City Music Festival include Natalie MacMaster, Bruce Cockburn, the Good Brothers, The Sadies, Joel Plaskett, Jane Siberry, the Barenaked Ladies, Crash Test Dummies, Final Fantasy, the Skydiggers, Quartette, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Bell Orchestre, Old Man Luedecke, the Handsome Family, Justin Rutledge, Rheostatics.

The festival officially begins late Friday afternoon with a free concert at the Gazebo on Front Street and continues throughout the weekend in venues all over town, closing late Sunday night at the Minto Park main stage tent.

Not leaving the children out of the fun, the popular Kids Fest starts on Saturday at 11 am in Minto Park, and offers a wide selection of games, crafts, and music for children of all ages.
